Here I am, blogging again! If you keep any kind of tabs on us at all, you may have noticed our collective absence from the blogosphere over the past month or so. I apologize for that. I guess the posts from all the other guys on here this week motivated me to jump on the train as well! Truth is, there hasn’t been a whole lot going on with us outside of our ongoing drummer auditions. As of this weekend, we will have performed with 6 different drummers over the course of two months! Several of these are friends of ours who have been helping us out by filling in until we have someone else ready to audition, and we are grateful for their help. The most difficult part about all this is teaching every new drummer the songs, plus all the additional stuff we do live to mix it up. Having band practice is not the most exciting thing in the world when you’re practicing the same set you’ve been playing for many moons. Alas, the show must go on!

Once we make our decision on a permanent new member, we will start learning new songs to start playing live, which is what I’m really excited about. We’ve got a handful of near-done songs that I’ve been working on demos for, and the next step is to test them live and see how they work. For The Transition EP, we had something of a timeline goal that came around before we were ready for it, and we ended up writing and recording most of the songs in a very short period of time, without ever performing them live. Songs like “I Am” and “Closer” never got the chance to see the stage before we laid down the tracks, which is something we’re trying to avoid this time around. We want to play the songs dozens of times in front of audiences so that each member can have the time to experiment and tweak their parts before they’re set in stone on a record. I believe that this natural evolution will benefit the songs in the end, though it may take a little more time. We really want to create something meaningful and ambitious on this next project. Maybe we will put up some demo clips along the way to show you a glimpse of what’s to come…

This is the season of great new music coming out. Blink’s new album is a winner; I just grabbed new Jack’s Mannequin and New Found Glory records, which I’m still deciding about. Relient K’s cover album just came out, but I haven’t picked it up yet. Next week is the new Deas Vail, then later this month Brian Wilson releases an album of Disney cover songs, and (incidentally) the following week will show the release of the Beach Boys’ unreleased/abandoned 1967 album SMiLE in all its glory. I plan on getting the deluxe box set, which includes 2 vinyl LPs, 5 CDs of demos and recording sessions, & 2 vinyl 45 singles. Stoked!

Well, we are leaving tomorrow for some shows in Maryland and Delaware. Wish us luck!

Three Songs to Buy on iTunes This Week:
1. “Hey Hey Hey (We’re All Gonna Die)” by Jack’s Mannequin

2. “Even If She Falls” by Blink-182

3. “Motorcycle Drive By” by Relient K [Third Eye Blind cover = awesome!]

  1. May God give you that drummer! Bless ya!

  2. AH, YOU’RE BACK. This was a relief to my soul! I’m sorry that auditions have been slow for you guys…. ayaye. Hope you find a permanent drummer purty soon. Can’t wait for the new songs. Can.not.wait. Been listening to the new Deas Vail record! And I had no idea Brian Wilson was still recording… wowsers. I hope y’all have safe travels! Praying for y’all.
